FAQ:

  1. # Why an unofficial FAQ instead of an official one?
    • Time spent working on an FAQ is time spent not working on FP2, right?
  2. # Is Freedom Planet 2 Canceled!?
    • It's out! Currently available on Steam and Itch.io as of 13 September 2022!
  3. # What is Freedom Planet 2's Release Date?
  4. # Why are there no updates?
  5. # Why is GT only showing off the early parts of the game?
    • It's a story based game and a lot of the content they're working on as of writing (May 2021) is late-game content that would be considered spoilery. So they choose not to show those parts off.
  6. # How old are Sash Lilac, Carol Tea, and Milla Basset?
  7. # How old are Neera Li and Gong?
    • No idea! Given their military occupations, they are both probably adults. If we get a canon answer, I will cite it.
  8. # Freedom Planet is a Sonic Fangame right?
    • Freedom Planet 1 uses Sonic Worlds as the base code framework for the physics, but is heavily modified from there. There was a time where Robotnik was intended to be the antagonist, but it was changed to be an all-original setting very early in development. Freedom Planet is a fangame in the sense that it depended heavily on the Sonic fandom for getting made, but it very quickly became its own style of fast paced melee-combat platform game. "Evolution of Freedom Planet" interview with Strife on IndieDB
  9. # What other games are Freedom Planet inspired by?
  10. # Why won't GalaxyTrail put Lilac in Super Smash Bros.?
    • Who gets into Smash is up to Nintendo, not GalaxyTrail. In addition, Lilac, Carol, and Milla all belong to Ziyo Ling and are only used by GalaxyTrail with her permission. However, Lilac is playable in Indie Pogo and Runbow. https://discord.com/channels/151670525205282825/223550300282290177/357311086392770560
    • From the SAGE 2020 Freedom Planet 2 Development Update Stream, one of the questions in the ending Question and Answer section was: "If Nintendo were to approach you about Lilac in Smash, how would you react? What would you want her moveset to be like?". Sabrina's reaction: "If they approached me, I would be genuinely surprised and thrilled! And as far as her moveset goes, I feel like we already kind of have directional-based attacks and abilites in the game? So I could see her fitting in without too much difference to how she plays in Freedom Planet 2."
  11. # Isn't Torque supposed to be playable in Freedom Planet 1?
    • If you own Freedom Planet on Steam, you can access the beta version with Torque playable in select Time Trial stages in the Steam beta named "Beta". He plays just like a cross of Gunstar Heroes and Alien Soldier with the fast pace of Freedom Planet's other characters. The additional stage Horizon Starport might be accessible by hacking, but cannot be completed in any commercial verson of the game. This content will not be finished because of technical and financial constraints with doing any additional major changes to FP1. https://steamcommunity.com/app/248310/discussions/0/141136086933992016/
  12. # Isn't Spade supposed to be playable in Freedom Planet 1?
    • Spade may be available in some old demos, but otherwise requires hacking the game. In cases where he is playable, he is in a very buggy state where attacks often don't interact with objects such as shields or enemies. Attempting to hack later versions of the game to force him to be playable often causes the game to reset itself. This content will not be finished because of technical and financial constraints with doing any additional major changes to FP1. https://steamcommunity.com/app/248310/discussions/0/141136086933992016/
  13. # Can I play as Spade or Torque on the console versions of Freedom Planet 1? (Wii U, Switch, PS4)
    • No. The characters are not available at all on consoles through any normal means.
  14. # Can I play as Spade or Torque in Freedom Planet 2?
    • Nothing of the sort has been announced.
  15. # Is Brevon in Freedom Planet 2?
  16. # What is the Freedom Planet Lore Bible? Can I get it?
    • There's an unofficial lore bible of notes collected from interview questions and past statements by Sabrina and other GT contractors on the GalaxyTrail Discord and old now-unavailable GalaxyTrail Forums. The document covers details about the planet of Avalice and its inhabitants and not much else. While useful for roleplay and fanfic-writing, much of this was never made canon in-game and may be invalidated with the release of Freedom Planet 2. You can read the Freedom Planet 1 Lore Bible here. or download an archived PDF.
  17. # I found a bug in a GalaxyTrail game? Where do I report it?
    • Freedom Planet 1 is at End Of Life and no longer receiving patches or content updates on any platform. You can note bugs you encounter on the FP-Chat channels of the GalaxyTrail Discord and they will be seen be developers, but are unlikely to ever be fixed.
    • Freedom Planet 2 bugs from the retail release can be noted on the FP2-chat channel of the Discord server. Bugs from the Sample Version / "Demo" are unlikely to be fixed as that version is unlikely to be updated.
    • Freedom Planet 2 bugs from the CLOSED BETA should only be reported on the appropriate places for testing feedback, not anywhere public.
    • Grapple Force Rena is end of life and will (probably) not receive any more updates.
    • Petal Crash bugs can be reported either on the GalaxyTrail Discord Server in the #petal-chat channel or in the Friend & Fairy Discord Server.
  18. # Are there any other games like Freedom Planet that I can play in the meantime?
    • There's some! Some games have similar mechanics, others have similar aesthetics. Here are RSF's top picks:
      • Similar Gameplay
        • Shang Mu Architect: A brand new Freedom Planet fangame with original outfits, music, and level themes where you can make your own maps just like Mario Maker or you can download other people's maps from the Discord Server. There are plans to add a story mode, too! Updates regularly!
        • Starbuster: A fantastic action-adventure 2D platformer taking some inspiration from Freedom Planet, Mega Man Zero, and plenty of ot her sources.(Like the Culture novels, for the Sci-fi book fans who've read it!) Cassie visually looks almost like a fusion of Milla, Carol, and Lilac. This game is primarily made by Proto and Woofle who do coding and music for Freedom Planet 2 as well.
        • Spark the Electric Jester: Also uses Sonic-style physics as the basis for its movement, but the combat is a bit more like Kirby. There are three main compaigns with different stories + extra content.
        • Rocket Knight Adventures (SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Classics): If you like playing as Lilac in Freedom Planet, the gameplay from Rocket Knight will feel very familiar. Difficult, but fun!
        • Sparkster (SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis): The Sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures! This is cited as an inspiration for Lilac's gameplay. The second level has a section that looks just like Relic Maze featuring a very familiar claw boss. Please note that Sparkster on the Mega Drive is not the same game as Sparkster on the SNES.
        • Sparkster (SNES): Also a sequel to Rocket Knight Adventures! A completely different game than the Mega Drive titles and with different combat mechanics. But the gameplay mechanics are still pretty similar to Lilac's in FP.
        • Gunstar Heroes: This was the inspiration for Torque's gameplay in FP's beta builds and very influential to the boss design of Freedom Planet. If you like big bosses and spectacularly flashy weapons, you'll want to check this out. A game by Treasure.
        • Gunstar Super Heroes: A Psuedo-Remake Psuedo-Sequel to Gunstar Heroes made for GBA. If you like Gunster Heroes, you'll probably like this too. Also by Treasure.
        • Ristar: Also cited as being an inspiration for gameplay in Freedom Planet. This game is all about grabbing and throwing things as well as swinging around and launching yourself to amazing heights.
        • Mega Man X Legacy Collection: If you're a fan of Carol, her walljumping might feel familiar here.
        • (SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Classics)Alien Soldier: A very challenging boss-rush game with over 20 bosses! If you like Freedom Planet's bosses and wish it had a boss-rush mode, this might appeal to you. This also features a mechanic where nothing can defeat you until you are hit again with no extra health left, similar to Freedom Planet. Another game by Treasure, makers of Gunstar Heroes.
        • Dynamite Headdy (SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis Classics): One of the most unique and bizarre action-adventure platformers I've ever played. Very bright and colorful. Another game by Treasure, makers of Gunstar Heroes.
        • Pulseman: Also cited as being an inspiration for gameplay in Freedom Planet. A fast-paced action platformer all about dashing at high speeds.
        • Super Mario Bros 2: Part of the inspiration for Milla's abilities to grab and throw items she's standing on. (Also part of Aqua Tunnel's visual aesthetics.)
        • Yoshi's Island (Super Mario World 2): Part of the inspiration for Milla's cube shots in FP2, making and throwing cubes instead of eggs in FP1, and her fluttering hover skills.
        • Christmas Time Heroes: An early freeware game by GalaxyTrail before it incorporated as an LLC. Plays a lot more like a Mega Man X game in terms of combat and pacing. Features Lord Sled who is very similar to Lord Brevon and a concept that sounds a lot like the Spectrum Chasers that Torque alludes to in FP. While there is no proof that CTH and FP take place in the same universe, it seems heavily implied.
      • Similar Aesthetics
        • Havoc Fox: A 2D action-adventure platformer loosely inspired by Freedom Planet. A similar visual aesthetic with familiar mechanics and obstacles but a very different style of combat that is a bit more grounded and less focused on speed. Has TONS of varied environments and NPC characters. Currently available with two demos: a 6 level platformer demo and a 1 level rhythm-game demo. Kickstarter happening soon!
        • Petal Crash: A fun sliding block puzzle featuring a cute centaur and Milla as a guest character. Developed by Friend & Fairy but published by GalaxyTrail LLC. Petal Crash Online will be available for open beta soon allowing people to play Versus and Co-Op together online with rollback netcode!
        • Grapple Force Rena: A grapple-and-swing based Sega Genesis styled Action Platformer with a bit more of the Ristar type gameplay similarities. The aesthetic and feed is also similar to GalaxyTrail's earlier games. Developed by Friend & Fairy but published by GalaxyTrail LLC.
      • Cameos
        • Petal Crash: Milla is a guest character. Select her by holding the "Grow" button while Penny and Deony. More details in the Similar Aesthetic section.
        • Sonic After The Sequel: Sash Lilac (ZiyoLing's original hedgehog design) appears as an NPC cameo.
        • Runbow: FP1's Lilac is a playable character in Runbow: a multiplayer platformer racing game.
        • Indie Pogo: FP1's Lilac is a playable character in Indie Pogo: a multiplayer platform-fighter a little bit like Super Smash Bros. but with an auto-jump mechanic.
        • Super Indie Karts: FP1's Carol and Lilac are playable characters in Super Indie Karts: a multiplayer indie-crossover racing game.
